Sackatoga Stable's promising 3-year-old colt Tiz the Law, who scored a three-length victory in the Feb. 1 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park, was made the 8-1 individual morning-line favorite in Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager—but the field, known as "All Other 3-Year-olds," is expected to be the overall preference when betting concludes Feb. 9.

Veteran oddsmaker Mike Battaglia has installed "All Other 3-Year-Olds" as the 5-2 early choice in the field of 24 betting interests for the three-day pool, which opens Feb. 7 at noon ET and concludes Sunday at 6 p.m. The pari-mutuel field for the first pool of the New Year has closed as the bettors' choice every year since the wager was inaugurated in 1999, and the final odds were 5-2 each of the last five years.

Tiz the Law, campaigned by the same team that won the 2003 Kentucky Derby (G1) with Funny Cide, garnered much attention as a 2-year-old following his impressive four-length victory in the Champagne Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. The colt by Constitution  closed as the individual betting favorite in Pool 1 of the KDFW at odds of 11-1.

Also expected to take action in Pool 2 is Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Twin Creeks Racing Stables, and Robert and Kathleen Verratti's undefeated colt Independence Hall (10-1), who is scheduled to make his next start in the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) Feb. 8 at Tampa Bay Downs. The highly-regarded colt captured the Jerome and Nashua (G3) stakes in his two starts that followed a maiden victory.

Five-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert has a trio of contenders in Pool 2: SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Frederick Hertrich III, John Fielding, and Golconda Stables' striking 7 1/4-length Sham (G3) winner Authentic (30-1); George Bolton, Arthur Hoyeau, Barry Lipman, and Mark Mathiesen's eye-catching maiden winner Nadal (12-1); and Albaugh Family Stables and Spendthrift Farm's undefeated colt Thousand Words (15-1), who captured the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita Park.

Overall, there are 10 new betting interests in Pool 2 including John Oxley's Lecomte Stakes (G3) winner Enforceable (30-1), Mike McCarty's Smarty Jones winner Gold Street (30-1), and debut winner Nadal.

The Kentucky Derby Future Wagers, which features win and exacta wagering, allow horseplayers to place bets on possible entrants in the May 2 Kentucky Derby at odds potentially greater than those available on the day of the race. Unlike future bets typically offered by casino racebooks, the Derby Future Wager is a pari-mutuel bet, offered via many racetracks, off-track wagering facilities, and online wagering outlets.

There are no refunds in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Should Churchill Downs officials determine during the duration of the three-day pool that one of the wagering interests has experienced an injury, illness, or other circumstance that would prevent the horse from participating in the Kentucky Derby, betting on the individual horse will be suspended.

Total handle for Pool 1 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager on Nov. 28-Dec. 1 was a record $350,312 ($284,317 in the Win pool and $65,995 in Exactas). "All Other 3-Year-Old Colts and Geldings" closed as the even-money favorite with Tiz the Law the slight choice among individual interests at 11-1.
