The first foal by The Lieutenant, a grade 3 winner of the All American Stakes, is a filly born Feb. 1 at Keane Stud Farm for breeder Meadow Hill Lane Farm. She is out of Keysong, a winning producer by Songandaprayer with a $413,000 yearling sales average. The mare is a half sister to NYRA stakes winner Miss Catalyst and is from the family of champion 3-year-old filly Tempest Queen.

"We will cherish every foal we get by The Lieutenant and are very happy that the first one came to one of our favorite New York breeders, Meadow Hill Lane Farm," said Sequel owner Becky Thomas.

A talented, graded stakes-winning miler, The Lieutenant was a half brother to Justify —the only Triple Crown winner to retire undefeated—and was a son of Street Sense , the first ever winner of the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) and Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1). The Lieutenant was bred in Kentucky by John D. Gunther out of the Ghostzapper  mare Stage Magic

The Lieutenant was among four stallions killed last December during a break-in at Haras Barlovento in Peru. The freshman stallion had shuttled to South America from his home base of Sequel Stallion New York, where he entered stud in 2019.
