Dennis' Moment trains at Santa Anita before the Breeders' Cup Juvenile

Across much of the country, Feb. 8 was an active morning for some of the nation's leading horses.

At Gulfstream Park in South Florida, Albaugh Family Stables' Dennis' Moment breezed five furlongs in 1:00.22 in preparation for a planned 2020 debut in the $400,000 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) there Feb. 29. At Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans, LNJ Foxwoods' champion Covfefe returned to the work tab for the first time since winning the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) with a three-furlong move in :38 3/5 for trainer Brad Cox. And out west, HRH Prince Faisal Bin Khaled's Mucho Gusto recorded his first breeze since winning the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes Presented by Runhappy (G1) with a five-furlong workout at Santa Anita Park in 1:02 for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.

Covfefe is just getting started  toward a spring return with races such as the Madison Stakes (G1) at Keeneland April 4 and the Humana Distaff Stakes (G1) on Derby Day at Churchill Downs May 2 under consideration. Mucho Gusto, meanwhile, has been pointed by Baffert for the $20 million Saudi Cup at King Abdulaziz Racetrack in Saudi Arabia Feb. 29.

Three-year-old Dennis' Moment, the beaten favorite in the TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) Nov. 1 at Santa Anita, produced the fourth fastest of 35 workouts recorded at the distance while breezing for the fifth time since arriving at Gulfstream.

"He hasn't missed a beat," trainer Dale Romans said. "His progression has been great."

The son of Tiznow , a highly regarded Triple Crown prospect, broke his maiden in his second career start July 27 at Ellis Park, scoring a 19 1/4-length triumph after running seven furlongs in 1:21.95. He came right back to win the Sept. 14 Iroquois Stakes (G3) in stakes-record time at Churchill Downs by 1 3/4 lengths in his first start around two turns.

"He's just a good horse. He's only going to improve," Romans said.

The colt, who dislodged his rider after clipping heels shortly after the start of his debut at Churchill Downs last June, lost virtually all chance in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita when he stumbled badly at the start. He ran last of eight and has been out of action since.

Also breezing Saturday for Romans was Jim Bakke and Gerald Isbister's Mr. Freeze, the Pegasus World Cup Invitational runner-up behind Mucho Gusto. He had a five-furlong breeze in 1:04.17.

"We haven't decided where we're going with him yet," Romans said.

One horse with a slated target is the Kenny McPeek-trained Restless Rider, who runs Feb. 15 in the $150,000 Royal Delta Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream after breezing five furlongs in 1:01.43 Saturday there. The Royal Delta is a race for older fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on dirt.

Winner of the Darley Alcibiades (G1) as a 2-year-old in 2018 for owners Fern Circle Stables and Three Chimneys Farm, the daughter of Distorted Humor  went winless in two starts last year, finishing second in the Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) behind 52-1 upsetter Out for a Spin and then going to the sidelines after a 12th-place finish in the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1).
