Nate Newby, who has served in various capacities in the Santa Anita Park marketing department for more than 11 years, has been named to fill the department's vacancy as vice president, it was announced Oct. 17.
The appointment is effective immediately, Santa Anita said in a statement.
"We are very fortunate to have someone with Nate's vast experience and understanding of our business model available to us at this point in time," said Tom Ludt, senior vice president for racing and gaming for The Stronach Group, which owns Santa Anita. "Nate has great experience being involved in the planning, marketing, and coordination of four successful Breeders' Cup World Championship events here at Santa Anita in 2003, 2008, 2009, and 2012.
Newby, 35, majored in business finance at Colorado State University and currently resides in Pasadena with his wife, Sterling. The Newbys are Thoroughbred breeders, owners, and horse enthusiasts. While enrolled at Colorado State, Newby worked as an assistant Thoroughbred trainer at Arapahoe Park.
The two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships will again be hosted by Santa AnitaNov. 1-2, and the Breeders' Cup will return to the Arcadia, Calif., track in November 2014.
