Godolphin homebred Maxfield returned to the work tab Feb. 17 for the first time since being scratched from the Nov. 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita Park. The Brendan Walsh trainee worked three-furlongs on the dirt at the Palm Meadows Training Center and was clocked in :38 1/5 for his efforts.

"It was an easy three-eighths. We wanted to let him stretch his legs and let him get back into the program," Walsh said. "It all went really well and he cooled out great. It's nice to have him back up and running and on the work tab again."

A 3-year-old son of Street Sense , Maxfield broke his maiden on debut in September at Churchill Downs before jumping up next out to take the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland. The victory earned the colt a spot in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile but he was unfortunately scratched due to a minor foot bruise. Maxfiled later underwent surgery in mid November to remove a displaced chip in his ankle—a procedure that required 60 days of recuperation before returning to training.

While pleased with Monday's workout, Walsh said he does not have any upcoming target in mind for his grade 1 winner.

"I think we will see how the first two or three works go," Walsh said. "We don't want to get too ahead of ourselves. We will probably come up with a plan as we move along and see what kind of a time frame he is going to be on. We're absolutely delighted with him. He's looking great."
