American Pharoah should be looking at a return to racing in March, according to trainer Bob Baffert.
The champion 2-year-old male hasn't raced since a 3 1/4-length victory in the FrontRunner Stakes (gr. I) Sept. 27 at Santa Anita Park. Baffert said American Pharoah will likely enter either the 1 1/16-mile San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita March 7 or the Rebel Stakes (gr. II) at the same distance March 14 at Oaklawn Park.
"He looks good," Baffert said of the muscular bay. "He'll come back around quick. We have the Rebel and the San Felipe. If all goes well, he'll be in one of those."
The 3-year-old colt, sired by Pioneerof the Nile and owned by Zayat Stables, had his first published workout of the year Feb. 2, an easy three furlongs in :36 1/5 at Santa Anita. It was his first workout since Oct. 26.
American Pharoah is listed at 12-1 in Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which opened Feb. 6.
