America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.
The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, our handicappers will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
Our handicappers also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity to bet a trifecta or superfecta.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. It's the easiest and most fun online horse betting site out there. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. Place your bets and you can walk away with some extra cash in your pocket.

This Weekend’s Bets
Saturday, Feb. 7
Best Bet (Win Bet/Monkey Bet)
Santa Anita Park, Race 4, 5 p.m. ET
#12 Legal Authority: This is a first-time starter who has a pedigree that suggests he will enjoy the turf. I think the far outside post position will be beneficial to him given that the field makes a slight right turn going down the hill on this unique course. He looks to have a steady set workouts since late October, and his trainer and jockey combination are doing well.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Santa Anita Park, Race 9, 7:30 p.m. ET
#5 Smoove It: She looked better than ever in her last start when pulling away to a strong win on this course. That was her first try going a mile on the turf, and she has plenty of room to keep improving. She also has enough speed to stay close to the pace early on.
#10 Intoxicating Move: She was last seen missing the win by a neck during the Del Mar meet. One of her three lifetime wins was at this distance and with this jockey. She seems to always fire a good effort and has finished first or second in seven of her last 10 starts.
#11 Sky Mega: Sky Mega will be trying the turf for the first time but there is some turf pedigree in her breeding. Her only win to date was at today’s distance and with today’s jockey. I like her early speed and I think the addition of blinkers makes her a big threat.
Sunday, Feb. 8
Best Bet (Win Bet/Monkey Bet)
Gulfstream Park, Race 6, 2:28 p.m. ET
#5 Huehuetoca: The City Zip filly finished a good second in a similar spot last time out when showing early speed, dueling for the lead and then holding on for the place money. This group has many question marks, with numerous first-time starters, and I think her racing experience is an advantage.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Gulfstream Park, Race 7, 2:58 p.m. ET
#1 Master Blender: This horse had a four-race winning streak snapped when stepping up in class against graded stakes competition in December. That was respectable fourth-place finish given that it wasn’t the easiest of trips. He’s dropping back in class today.
#2 City of Weston: He has now won the last two times he’s raced on the dirt here at Gulfstream. He was much closer to pace last time out, and that proved to his advantage. I think he will be in a very similar scenario today.
#5 Ruble: Ruble disappointed as the betting favorite last time out when running third on the turf. He now returns to the dirt (his preferred surface) and has won on the lead or from off the pace. His versatility might be the key to this race. He owns a pair of wins on this track.
