Farms in Kentucky and New York have reported the first reported foals by Airdrie Stud's McCraken , a multiple graded stakes-winning son of Ghostzapper .
A filly out of the maiden mare Scatback, a winning daughter of Scat Daddy from the family of graded stakes winners Z Humor and Chip, was born Feb. 8 at Bill and Carolyn Johnson's Stonegate Farm near Fort Edward, N.Y. The filly was bred by Stonegate in partnership with Everything's Cricket Racing.
"This is a very pretty filly," said Bill Johnson. "She is well-balanced, looks fast, and is a great example of a stallion stamping his foal. She is McCraken all the way, and we are pleased to have the first one."
Born in Kentucky was a colt out of Adele Dazeem, an Unbridled's Song daughter, at Machmer Hall near Paris, Ky., and a filly out of the stakes winner Exposure who was born a Millennium Farm for her breeder Go-To-Toga Racing.
"He is a big, leggy colt with tremendous bone showing that McCraken was well suited to one of our Unbridled's Song mares," said Machmer Hall's Carrie Brogden, who bred the colt.
Millennium's Zach Madden said he was excited about their filly as well.
"She has tons of quality, bone and substance. A very solid foal," Madden said.
McCraken was undefeated in three starts as a juvenile for owner/breeder Whitham Thoroughbreds and trainer Ian Wilkes, including wins in the Street Sense Stakes and Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs. He broke the track record on his 3-year-old debut when winning the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs and went on to win the Matt Winn Stakes (G3), finish second by a nose to Girvin in the betfair.com Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) ahead of grade 1 winners Practical Joke and Battle of Midway, and was third in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2). He retired with six wins and four places out of 14 starts and earned $869,728. McCraken stands for $10,000.
