Shooting Star Thoroughbreds' Chance It breezed three furlongs in :34.68 the morning of Feb. 24, cruising over the Gulfstream Park racetrack under Tyler Gaffalione in preparation for a planned start in Saturday's Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (G2).
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., Chance It's workout was the fastest of nine recorded at the distance and was the Currency Swap colt's fifth since winning his 3-year-old debut in the Jan. 4 Mucho Macho Man Stakes at the south Florida track.
"He did it the right way. He moved well. We were plenty fit, so today was to make sure he was in good form. All's good. I thought he did everything he was asked today," Joseph said. "As far as fitness goes, he's spot-on fit. We just need to have a good week. Hopefully, everything goes to plan for the rest of the week, and we should go over there with a good chance."
Chance It is expected to clash with Dennis' Moment, Shotski, As Seen On Tv, Ete Indien, Green Light Go, and Gear Jockey, in a field that will be drawn live following Wednesday's first race.
Florida-bred Chance It made an impressive 3-year-old debut Jan. 4 in the one-mile Mucho Macho Man, in which he rated off the pace before taking the lead in the stretch and fighting back to win by a head over As Seen On Tv.
The Fountain of Youth will headline a 14-race program that will feature nine graded stakes, including the Gulfstream Park Mile (G2), the Davona Dale (G2), and the Mac Diarmida (G2T).
Michael Hui's Zulu Alpha, who captured the Jan. 25 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Presented by Runhappy (G1T) in his most recent effort, breezed a half-mile in :48.63 Monday morning at Gulfstream in preparation for a scheduled start in the Mac Diarmida. Trained by Michael Maker, the 7-year-old Street Cry gelding has a record of 10-4-5 from 31 starts and is just shy of $2 million in earnings.
The Mac Diarmida, at 1 3/8 miles on turf, is also expected to draw grade 1 winner Sadler's Joy and graded stakes winner A Thread of Blue.
At Palm Meadows Training Center, trainer Chad Brown sent out 4-year-old filly Regal Glory, a half sister to recent Hyacinth Stakes winner Cafe Pharoah who has not had an official timed work since finishing sixth in the Oct. 12 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Lane's End (G1T) at Keeneland. Prior to that start the daughter of Animal Kingdom had five wins and two seconds in her seven career starts.
Regal Glory breezed three furlongs on the grass in :37.75 to be the fastest of six at the distance Monday.
Brown also sent Raging Bull to the track Monday morning for his first work since placing third in the Sept. 14 Ricoh Woodbine Mile (G1T) at Woodbine. The 5-year-old son of Dark Angel worked three furlongs in :38.50 on the Palm Meadows turf.
