Green Light Go wins the Saratoga Special at Saratoga Race Course

The field for the Feb. 29 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park took a hit Feb. 25 when trainer Jimmy Jerkens said Green Light Go would miss the race after developing a fever. The Hard Spun  3-year-old colt, winner of last year's Saratoga Special Stakes (G2), had been among a handful of starters expected to face Dennis' Moment in the 1 1/16-mile Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifier, to which entries will be made and posts assigned Feb. 26.

After his victory in the Saratoga Special in his second start last year, Green Light Go ran second behind Tiz the Law in the Champagne Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park in his 2-year-old finale. He returned this year to run third in the Swale Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Feb. 1.

Jerkens said in a text that the setback was "frustrating to say the least."

News of his defection was first reported on Twitter by Daily Racing Form's Mike Welsch.

Dennis' Moment—eighth last out as the favorite in the Nov. 1 TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita Park after stumbling at the start—is still expected to face Chance it, ShotskiAs Seen On Tv, Ete Indien, and Gear Jockey in the Fountain of Youth based on probable entrants distributed by Gulfstream over the weekend.

Saturday's card at Gulfstream will have eight other graded stakes including the $200,000 Davona Dale Stakes (G2) for 3-year-old fillies, a qualifying points race for the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1).
