Grade 1 winner Restless Rider has been retired from racing and will visit leading sire Quality Road , owners Fern Circle Stables and Three Chimneys Farm announced Feb. 26.
The 4-year-old daughter of Distorted Humor —Silky Serenade, by Unbridled's Song, won or placed in seven of nine starts and was retired with $894,160 in earnings. Trained by Kenny McPeek, Restless Rider was one of the leading juveniles of her generation. The gray filly won the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) and Debutante Stakes and ran second in the Tito's Handmade Vodka Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), Spinaway Stakes (G1), and Golden Rod Stakes (G2). At 3, she placed in the Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) at Keeneland.
"She's a really special filly, and we're proud of what she accomplished," McPeek said. "Fern Circle winning their first grade 1 while partnering with (the) Three Chimneys team was great. I'm sure she will be a great broodmare as well. Her kind of talent is hard to find."
Restless Rider was bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, and her dam is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner and sire Private Vow. Fern Circle and Three Chimneys, with McPeek as agent, purchased her for $150,000 from the consignment of Denali Stud, agent for Stonestreet, at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
"Restless Rider is representative of what we are looking to do at Three Chimneys—to race top-quality horses with like-minded partners and to share the ups and downs together," Three Chimneys chairman Goncalo Torrealba said. "We are honored to be partners with Paul Fireman's Fern Circle Stables and to have won a grade 1 race like the Alcibiades together. She was a top-class filly and an extremely talented 2-year-old. That coupled with the success Distorted Humor has had as a broodmare sire makes her a very exciting prospect. We hope the best is yet to come."
Restless Rider made one start this year, finishing off the board in the Feb. 15 Royal Delta Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park. It was her first start since the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1).
Quality Road, a top-five stallion on the general sires list last year, stands at Lane's End for $200,000.
