Shooting Star Thoroughbreds' Chance It has been scratched from the $400,000 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2), the Feb. 29 feature at Gulfstream Park, in favor of a run in the March 7 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby (G2) at Tampa Bay Downs.
Chance It was the 7-2 morning-line second choice for the Fountain of Youth off victories in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes and In Reality Division of the FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes. The 3-year-old son of Currency Swap had drawn the outside post 12.
"We thought about it long and hard," said trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. "It's a tough post to overcome. I've never had a horse like this. I want to respect him and do what's right. I want to give him a fair chance."
Also scratched from the Fountain of Youth was Daniel Hurtak's Makabim, from post 2, leaving a field of 10.
