America’s Best Racing brand ambassador Jose Contreras – who puts his picks out for the public regularly on his own blog www.losponies.com - will help DerbyJackpot players with his insight in a regular blog feature for ABR.
Each week, Jose will give out his “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a “Monkey Bet” (a win bet) on DerbyJackpot, as well as his Lonshot Play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a Monkey Bet or to take a shot with “The Granny” (a show bet, or top-three finish).
Jose also will lay out either a quick-hitting Granny Parlay or a Gonzo Bet. The Granny Parlay essentialy is a bet in which players will have an opportunity to place one Granny bet after another on a sequence of four or five races within an hour or so of each other, essentially letting it ride as they go "all in" search of a nice return on investment. The idea of the parlay is to steadily grow your bankroll until you have a sizeable stash of cash to let it ride on the final leg for a nice payout. The Gonzo Bet requires players to select the first two finishers in a given race in order, the same as a traditional exacta bet.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. It’s fun, it’s easy, and you can win cash. Open your account today.

Recap of Last Week
Saturday: Tough trips for our Best Bet and Longshot Bet, they finished off the board. The Gonzo Bet, barely missed, our horses finished 1st and 3rd.
Sunday: Our Best Bet broke slow and finished off the board. Longshot Bet missed the board by less than a length and finished fourth at 15-1. The Gonzo was cold, all the horses finished off the board.
Saturday
(Monkey Bet/Win Bet)
Keeneland, Race 7, 4:17 p.m. ET
#11 Lemon de Oro: Has two lifetime starts on the grass going long and both of those starts she has been close to the lead and tired late. Today, she shortens in distance and faces a field that is primarily composed of first-time starters. She has some racing experience, adds lasix for the first time and has good workout on today’s surface. I think she has a big shot here. She’s 5-to-1 on the morning line.
(Monkey Bet/Win Bet)
Santa Anita, Race 5, 6:09 p.m. ET
#7 Chicsdigtheshark: This is a horse who runs well when he gets the lead and last time out he didn’t get away to a great start and was not able to get the lead. He looked uncomfortable behind horses and looked empty midway. Let’s hope for a better start today.
Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)
Keeneland, Race 3, 2:09 p.m. ET
#4 Noble Charlotte: What I like most about her is her record on this Keeneland track. She has one win and three seconds from four lifetime starts. A few of her past efforts fit against this group and I think she has a shot at hitting the board. I expect her to be much higher than the 6-to-1 morning-line odds.
Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)
Santa Anita, Race 8, 7:45 p.m. ET
#6 Mobilized: He’s got the class edge against many of these. His most recent race looked too tough of a spot given that he was only making his second start of 2013. I expect improvement in today’s return to the Santa Anita turf, and his last two workouts look to be solid.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Keeneland, Race 8, 4:50 p.m. ET
#4 One Golden Road: Ran out of ground last time out when flying late for third. Today, he gets more real estate and I expect him to be flying late once again.
#6 Paroled: This another one that has consistently closed ground late and has experience at this track and on this surface. He finished less than two lengths behind One Golden Road in their race.
#7 Sporting Holiday: He is going up in class but his trainer is winning at a rate of 20% when claiming horses for the first time. He will be a big price but is worth including in exacta given the connections.
#8 Global Express: He is the deserving favorite given some of his performances on the turf. He has a couple of nice workouts and has faced some tougher competition.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Santa Anita, Race 9, 8:15 p.m. ET
#5 Water Issues: She broke slow and made up a lot of ground to finish fourth when running against a few of these runners. Today, she gets more ground to cover and hopefully her late kick will take advantage of the added real estate.
#6 Singleinthelast: She ran a decent fifth against tougher at Del Mar in her last race when losing by less than five lengths. She takes a big class drop for a trainer that wins at a 36% clip with this move. She brings a good workout into this race and looks to have plenty of room to improve.
#7 Papa’s Flashy Girl: She chased solid fractions at Fairplex Park and ended up third in her first and only start on dirt. She showed she can handle the distance and that is a big advantage against some of these. She’s another one who is only making her third lifetime start.
