Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence's two-time Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix (gr. III) winner
Sum of the Parts worked a half-mile in :50.60 under jockey Leandro Goncalves over the Polytrack at
Keeneland on Oct. 19, prepping for an upcoming start in the Nov. 2 Xpressbet Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) at
Santa Anita Park.
"He did it well and in hand," trainer Tom Amoss said. "He worked a little quicker than he did before the Phoenix (:51.40) and he'll have one more easy work like this next Saturday (Oct. 26) or Sunday."
Fractions for the work from Keeneland clockers were :13 and :26 1/5 with a 1:04 1/5 gallop out for five furlongs.
Sum of the Parts had three works at the Lexington oval after his Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix victory last year prior to running fourth in the $1.5 million Sprint. He will have only two works this time prior to leaving for Santa Anita on Oct. 29.
"We are going to change up the game plan this time," Amoss said. "The best is yet to come with him. His race in the Phoenix was not his 100 percent best race. He is the quickest horse in the first 10 steps out of the gate I have ever had."
Goncalves will have the mount in the Breeders' Cup aboard the 4-year-old
Speightstown runner, who has six wins and two seconds from 15 starts for earnings of $716,543. In addition to his grade III victories, Sum of the Parts is the winner of the 2012 Red Legend Stakes at Charles Town and the Tom Ridge Stakes at
Presque Isle Downs. He is a two-time Breeders' Cup participant, having finished sixth in the 2011 Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint.
