Trainer Jeremiah Englehart, who could have been exposed to COVID-19 through New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton on March 14 at Oaklawn Park, has not shown any symptoms of the virus, according to his father, trainer Chris Englehart.
"I've talked to Jeremiah daily and talked to him twice today, and he's doing fine," Chris Englehart said March 20. "He has no symptoms at all, but he says he'll probably stay quarantined for the two weeks. If he has no symptoms by next Saturday, he believes he'll be fine."
Chris Englehart said Jeremiah and his wife, Robin, are in the process of leaving Arkansas and returning to their home in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. His father added that Englehart has an underlying medical condition that heightens concern over his exposure to COVID-19.
Based for most of the year in New York, Jeremiah Englehart shipped a string of horses to Oaklawn for the winter meet. Among the shippers is Three Technique, who is owned by the August Dawn Farm of two-time Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Parcells.
A 3-year-old son of Mr Speaker , the stakes-placed Three Technique finished fourth March 14 in the Rebel Stakes (G2).
In an interview with TVG before the race, Payton said he was at Oaklawn Park to represent Parcells on a day when the track was closed to the general public. Payton was a member of Parcells' coaching staff with the Dallas Cowboys from 2003-05.
Aside from meeting with Englehart and being interviewed by TVG's Britney Eurton, Payton also presented the trophy to the winning connections of the Azeri Stakes (G2) during the March 14 card.
Eurton announced via Twitter March 19 that she was "feeling good (and) I have no symptoms after coming in contact with somebody last weekend who has since tested positive for COVID-19," but she will self-quarantine as a precaution. TVG also announced that any TVG or Fanduel employee who came into contact with Payton would be self-isolating as a safety precaution.
Payton said Thursday that he was feeling better and did not have any respiratory symptoms. He said he would remain at home for four more days.
