Description:

EquiLottery chief executive officer Brad Cummings will be testifying before a Kentucky Senate committee on behalf of legislation Feb. 10 in Frankfort, the state capital.

The bill, which supports a lottery game like EquiLottery that would base winners on the outcome of live horse races, will be heard in front of the Senate Licensing, Occupations, and Administrative Regulations Committee at 10 a.m. EST in Room 169 of the Capitol Annex. The hearing is open to the public.

"We have been overwhelmed by the support we've received from the Kentucky racing industry and our political support in Frankfort for EquiLottery continues to build momentum," Cummings said in a Feb. 9 release. "I am honored once again to go in front of this esteemed committee to deliver our vision for a product that can increase revenues for education and horse racing while greatly enhancing the popularity and exposure of a sport at the core of Kentucky's DNA."

Bill sponsor Sen. Julie Raque Adams, a Louisville Republican, also will testify on behalf of the bill along with several leaders from Kentucky's horse industry. Since Feb. 3 more than 12,000 emails have been sent to lawmakers in Frankfort in support of the bill, Cummings said.

EquiLottery previously was presented during a meeting of the Interim Joint Licensing and Occupations Subcommittee in September at Keeneland.

"Our efforts over the last seven months have proven there is great interest in EquiLottery across the country from racing and lottery interests alike," Cummings said. "However, many have indicated they are looking to Kentucky to lead the way due to its status as the horse racing capital of the world.

"If Senate Bill 74 passes, we see our product being spread across the country and, in states where there is not year-round racing, an opportunity for EquiLottery to showcase Kentucky racing beyond the nearly 3,000 in-state lottery terminals."
