Safety Alliance Seeks New Executive Director

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced Feb. 9 it has launched a nationwide search for its next executive director of the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance.



The NTRA formed the Safety and Integrity Alliance was formed in 2009 to establish and implement national standards for racetrack safety and integrity. Through a Code of Standards and an accreditation process, the alliance implements standards in the areas of injury reporting and prevention, safety equipment and a safer racing environment, medication and testing, health and safety of jockeys, aftercare and second careers for retired equine athletes, and wagering security.



The executive director position calls for 10 or more years of management experience in the Thoroughbred industry, as well as demonstrated knowledge of issues pertaining to equine drug testing, track management, equine health and safety, jockey safety, wagering security, and racehorse aftercare.



Mike Ziegler, the alliance's executive director since 2009, last month accepted the new post of executive director of racing for Churchill Downs Inc.
