Grade 3 winner Majestic Reason has been retired, trainer Graham Motion confirmed April 4.
The winner of the Feb. 15 Runhappy Barbara Fritchie Stakes (G3) at Laurel Park in her most recent start, the 5-year-old daughter of Majestic Warrior will be bred to Irish War Cry .
Had racing continued, Motion said he would have likely brought Hillwood Stable and Richard Golden's Majestic Reason back in the seven-furlong Conniver Stakes, scheduled for Saturday on what would have been opening weekend of Laurel's spring meet.
"We certainly had toyed with the idea of breeding her this year, but I kept feeling like she was doing so well and we really wanted to run her in the Fritchie. I didn't want to give her a break before the Fritchie, so we just kind of spaced her races out," Motion said. "We had every intention of doing a campaign this year starting with the race at Laurel.
"Then David Wade, Mr. Golden's farm manager, and Michael Golden, Mr. Golden's son, kind of got their heads together, and it seemed logical to breed her.
"She's such a nice mare," Motion added. "We could have been sitting on her for a couple of months, and it was just risky not to breed her. They bred her to Irish War Cry, which I think is exciting. She's a good mare for him to have. I think it just shows what kind of confidence Mr. Golden has in Irish War Cry."
Irish War Cry, a millionaire multiple graded stakes-winning son of Curlin , stands at Northview Stallion Station in Maryland where his advertised fee for 2020 was $6,500.
