Charlatan, Tiz the Law 5-1 in Derby Future Wager Pool 4

With the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) pushed back to Sept. 5, up-and-comer Charlatan, who has won his two starts by a combined 16 lengths, and Curlin Florida Derby (G1) winner Tiz the Law closed at 5-1 as co-second choices in Pool 4 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Charlatan attracted $17,364 in Win bets, just $89 more than Tiz the Law. The pari-mutuel field of "All Other 3-Year-Olds" once again closed as the 3-1 favorite.

Other horses who attracted interest from bettors were Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) winner Maxfield at 9-1, Rebel Stakes (G2) winner Nadal at 9-1, San Felipe Stakes (G2) winner Authentic at 10-1, and San Felipe runner-up Honor A. P. at 15-1.

Charlatan, Nadal, and Authentic are trained by Hall of Fame and five-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert. The Kentucky Derby Future Wager, offered for a 22nd consecutive year, enables bettors to wager on possible Kentucky Derby contenders in advance of America's greatest race at odds that could be more attractive than those available on the day of the race.

On March 17, Churchill Downs Inc. announced the 146th running of the Kentucky Derby, the 1 1/4-mile classic for 3-year-olds, had been rescheduled amid public health concerns in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Churchill Downs officials have been working with other prominent partner tracks to add Road to the Kentucky Derby races and determine the various paths to the Kentucky Derby starting gate that enable horses in the best form to compete. An updated schedule of races will be announced in the coming weeks as discussions with state and local governments and all appropriate parties take place to determine the most suitable time to conduct those races.

Total handle for Pool 4 of the KDFW was $213,664 ($144,349 in the Win pool and $69,315 in Exactas). Additional KDFW pools will be staged this summer. Those dates are pending.
