The decision to return No Parole to shorter distances proved to be a good one for owners Maggi Moss and Greg Tramontin as the son of Violence aired in a $61,000 allowance optional claiming race going six furlongs April 24 at Oaklawn Park.
Seeking to rebound from an eighth in the March 14 Rebel Stakes (G2) over a 1 1/16-mile trip, the Tom Amoss trainee was sent off as the even-money favorite in a field of 10 3-year-olds. He ran to his odds under Joe Talamo, finishing under wraps in a final time of 1:09.34 on a fast track.
Talamo sent No Parole up immediately from the inside post to take command, and the bay colt posted fractions of :21.59 and :44.80 while tracked by Juggernaut on his outside. He easily shook free of that rival heading around the turn for home and opened his advantage when roused to the task through five-eighths in :56.89 en route to a 2 3/4-length victory. American Butterfly was second, and Rager finished third.
Louisiana-bred No Parole won three in a row before his Rebel Stakes loss, capped by a 6 1/2-length victory in the Feb. 8 LA Bred Premier Night Prince Stakes at Delta Downs. His earnings stand at $157,866 with four wins from five starts. A $75,000 yearling purchase by Moss at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale from Select Sales, agent for Coteau Grove Farms, he is out of the stakes-winning Bluegrass Cat mare Plus One. The mare has two winners from three foals to race.
