Princess Secret breaks her maiden at Gulfstream Park

Daniel Pita's Princess Secret emerged victorious May 7 in a $65,000 Gulfstream Park maiden special weight. The Florida-bred Khozan  filly wired the 4 1/2-furlong sprint, defeating several highly anticipated starters.

Making her debut for owner/trainer Pita, Princess Secret broke sharply under Luis Saez and cut quickly to the inside to take up a spot on the rail. Briella, who made brief contact with the gate at the break, made a beeline for the leader but was bumped again by Awesome View

Briella recovered quickly and got up to press the pace in second behind Princess Secret. Exiting the turn for home, Briella keep the pressure on Princess Secret but soon found herself unable to keep up with the leader. Urged on by Saez, Princess Secret drew away and crossed the wire four lengths clear.

The final time was :51.94 on a fast track.

Briella, who was the only runner in the stretch with a stakes-winning sibling, finished second. Race Day Speed was third ahead of Gem Thief, a Wesley Ward trainee who was the favorite. Lyrical took fifth, followed by Awesome View, Yafa, and Sister Aurora to complete the order of finish.

Bred by Brent and Crystal Fernung, Princess Secret was consigned to the 2019 Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale by Journeyman Bloodstock Services where she was purchased by Manuel Pita for $30,000.

Princess Secret earned $43,000 for her first victory.
