Churchill Downs announced May 15 its Spring Meet would be televised on FOX Sports' "America's Day at the Races," airing every race day on either FS1 or FS2.
Racing from Churchill not be shown on TVG, but on its secondary channel, TVG2, according to the track. TVG2 is not as widely available in broadcast packages offered to at-home viewers.
Churchill races were broadcast last year on TVG after a period of years in which the two companies were sometimes at odds. Churchill Down Inc. owns Twinspires.com, an advance deposit wagering platform, and TVG offers wagering in addition to its television programming.
"We offered the same product and deal to TVG as we did to Fox Sports, but it was rejected," Darren Rogers, senior director of communications and media services for Churchill Downs, said in a statement. "We welcome and continue ongoing discussions with TVG."
Bettors will continue to be able to wager on races from Churchill Downs via TVG, Rogers said. Betting on racing from Churchill Downs is also available through most ADW platforms.
Kip Levin, TVG CEO, emphasized they were pleased to be able to continue to show Churchill races on TVG2 and via their app.
“We’ve got a great lineup of major racing and are excited about the return of racing at Santa Anita and Golden Gate in addition to Gulfstream Park and other premier racing content," he said. "We’re excited that racing is returning to Churchill Downs, too, and we tried very hard to secure the rights to air the Churchill Downs’ races, but we were not able to reach an agreement."
NBCSN will pick up TVG's Trackside Live programming from 4 - 8 p.m. ET from Friday through May 17.
Produced by the New York Racing Association in partnership with FOX Sports, "America's Day at the Races" presents coverage and analysis from around the country. The program is hosted by Greg Wolf and Laffit Pincay III, and this weekend's broadcasters include Andy Serling, Maggie Wolfendale, Gary Stevens, and Jonathon Kinchen.
Tom Amoss, a trainer at Churchill Downs and a frequent analyst on the FOX Sports program, said he will be a part of the coverage this spring but said he was unavailable to be a part of this weekend's coverage.
Churchill Downs will offer handicappers free Brisnet past performances each day of the 26-day Spring Meet.
