Regal Beauty wins at Santa Anita Park

Gary and Mary West's homebred Regal Beauty scored a clear victory in her third start to break her maiden May 17 at Santa Anita Park.

The 3-year-old Malibu Moon  filly, off at odds of 11-1, broke in second just behind Full Eclipse but took over the lead after a quarter-mile in :23.86. She looked full of run under jockey Abel Cedillo and completed a half-mile in :47.73 before pulling clear on the turn for home.

Last First Kiss tried to make a run at the leader, but Regal Beauty easily put distance between them and won the one-mile test by 3 1/4 lengths in 1:38.46 on a fast track.

Regal Beauty outran a field that included stablemate Crystal Ball, a $750,000 purchase by WinStar Farm who now races for WinStar Stablemates Racing. Another Malibu Moon filly, Crystal Ball finished third in her debut Sunday. Regal Beauty also outran the favored Classy Ruler, a $700,000 purchase who finished sixth at odds of 3-2.

Regal Beauty is out of the Giant's Causeway mare Book Review, the winner of the 2012 La Brea Stakes (G1). She is the second winner for her dam.
