The 161st running of the Queen's Plate will be held Sept. 12 at Woodbine, according to a May 18 announcement by Woodbine Entertainment.

The first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown with a pure of CA$1 million was postponed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled to run June 27. Woodbine is currently scheduled to start to its Thoroughbred season June 6. The meet has been delayed from its April 18 opening.

The Queen's Plate, for Canadian-bred 3-year-olds running 1 1/4 miles on Woodbine's Tapeta track, is the longest continuously run Thoroughbred stakes race in North America.

"The history of the Queen's Plate is so rich and the fact that it's been held every year since the inaugural race in 1860 is remarkable," said Jim Lawson, CEO of Woodbine Entertainment. "We are honored to be able to continue this rich history in face of adversity by hosting the race for the 161st consecutive year."

As part of the preparations for the Queen's Plate, the Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser and the Plate Trial will be held Aug. 15.

Woodbine's Thoroughbred meet will open without spectators at the Toronto area track. Woodbine Entertainment said it will continue to follow the most updated direction from government and public health officials as it relates to spectators attending events.

Updates on the latest information regarding fan participation with the Queen's Plate will be posted to QueensPlate.com.

Woodbine Entertainment's full Thoroughbred stakes schedule is expected to be announced May 20.
