Owner Baoma announced May 15 that its retired multiple grade 1-winning filly Bast is in foal to 2018 Triple Crown champion Justify , who stands at Ashford Stud.
Bast, a daughter of Uncle Mo out of Laffina (Arch), was retired Feb. 20 after a highly successful 2-year-old campaign with trainer Bob Baffert and started 2020 with a win in the Santa Ynez Stakes (G2). Bast was the only 2-year-old of 2019—among both fillies and juvenile colts nationwide—to have three grade 1 wins. The filly strung together victories in the Del Mar Debutante Stakes, the Chandelier Stakes, and the Starlet Stakes.
Bast had a 4-1-1 record in six starts and $852,200 in earnings.
Robyn Murray with Coolmore sales and marketing said: "We were very excited to hear Bast checked in foal and are incredibly grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Chu for breeding their three-time grade 1-winning daughter of Uncle Mo to Justify. We have been very impressed by Justify's first foals, he has attracted another terrific book of mares again this year, and we look forward to seeing the result of this mating between two extremely talented athletes."
Justify is a 5-year-old son of the late Scat Daddy out of the grade 3-placed Ghostzapper mare Stage Magic.
