Northview PA to be Sold to Consolidate Business

Northview Stallion Station announced May 11 that it will sell its Pennsylvania division, Northview PA, in order to consolidate and focus on the Maryland division.

The farm near Peach Bottom, Pa., is currently home to four stallions—millionaire Hoppertunity , whose first crop is arriving this year; freshman sires Peace and Justice  and Uncle Lino ; and veteran sire Medallist , who has been on the Pennsylvania roster since the farm opened.

Former Northview PA residents Jump Start, the region's leading sire for much of the past decade who died last year, and El Padrino who died in 2017, both rank in the top five on the current Mid-Atlantic regional sires list.

The farm will continue to operate normally until the property is sold or, should it not sell by Nov. 30, the resident stallions will be moved to the Maryland division.

"We have strived to offer Mid-Atlantic breeders some of the best stallions and service in the region. We thank you for your business, your trust, and especially for the relationships we have developed over the years," Northview general manager David Wade and vice president Michael Golden said in a letter to clients late last week. "As happens with most businesses, however, circumstances often change and Northview has made the difficult decision to consolidate our operation and focus on the Maryland division.

"This will have no effect on the remainder of the 2020 breeding season. While there is no guarantee that an individual or group will purchase the farm with the intention of carrying on our vision, we certainly hope that is the case."

It was noted the decision was not a result of recent issues.

"This has not been a hastily made decision and is unrelated to the Pennsylvania political climate or COVID-19, as we know some will surmise," the letter stated. "Pennsylvania has a strong racing and breeding industry that we are certain will continue to grow and prosper, but it's not where Northview needs to be at this point."

Northview PA opened for the 2009 breeding season on 180 acres of farmland in Lancaster County. Built from the ground up, it includes an eight-stall stallion barn, breeding shed, management and booking office, three 20-stall broodmare/foaling barns, and a 12-stall yearling barn, all completed by Amish craftsmen.

Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City, Md., is currently home to six stallions.

The Pennsylvania property will be listed with Patterson-Price Real Estate, one of the largest agricultural real estate companies in the region.
