Jockey Emisael Jaramillo earned his 1,000th victory in the United States/Canada when he guided Sir Seamus to victory in the eighth race at Gulfstream Park May 23, according to statistics from Equibase.

Network Stables' 4-year-old Handsome Mike  gelding broke from post 10 with Jaramillo up and went straight to the lead. The Carlos David trainee went gate-to-wire in the 1 1/16-mile turf claiming race and crossed the wire 1 3/4 lengths in front. The final time was 1:41.55 on a course rated good.

Following his win aboard Sir Seamus, Jaramillo returned to win Gulfstream's 11th race, a one-mile allowance optional claiming event on turf, with Arindel's homebred filly Key Biscayne for trainer Juan Alvarado.

The 43-year-old rode more than 4,000 winners in his native Venezuela, where he was a 13-time champion, before venturing to South Florida in 2015. He has also won 10 races in Puerto Rico and one race in Dubai—the 2019 Dubai Golden Shaheen Sponsored by Gulf News (G1) aboard X Y Jet.

Jaramillo rode more than 200 winners every year from 2016-19, primarily at Gulfstream Park and Gulfstream Park West. In February, he piloted Teresa and David Palmer's Cheermeister, trained by Armando De La Cerda, to victories in the Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3T) and Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3T).

Since 2000, Jaramillo has a 1,011-802-571 record from 5,219 starts, and his mounts have earned $29,711,172 as of Saturday, according to Equibase.
