America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.
The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, our handicappers will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
Our handicappers also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity to bet a trifecta or superfecta.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. It's the easiest and most fun online horse betting site out there. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. Place your bets and you can walk away with some extra cash in your pocket.

Saturday
Best Bet (Win Bet/ Monkey Bet)
Santa Anita Park, Race 5
Deputy Heat: Showed an appreciation for the turf in his first turf start on Nov. 16. He came back in his next start and won against a next-out winner proving the first turf race was no fluke. He's still lightly raced with lots of room to continue to improve. He seems to be a grinder type and never quits. That style should suit him well going 1 1/8 miles, a distance that not many in here have ever been. That should give him a leg up on the others doing it for the first time.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Santa Anita Park, Race 9
Mio Me: Mio Me had a nice debut going a mile on the Churchill turf. She made a 5-wide, early move and just couldn't sustain it. She was then shipped to California, where she won her first race on this turf course. She was an impressive winner that day as she closed from well back into a slow pace. After that race, her connections were so impressed they tried her in a Grade 1 in which she failed to fire. Back on her favorite surface, she should run well.
Shh She's Ours: After an impressive debut last July, this filly needed a long layoff afterward. She came back recently and ran a knockout race to get second on the dirt. She's trying turf for the first time here, which is the biggest question mark with her. If she likes it, she certainly has the talent to factor. I like that the connections remove her tag for this one after she was in for a claiming price last out.
Havanna Belle: One of a few foreign invaders in this race, Havanna Belle catches the eye mainly because top rider Rafael Bejarano takes the mount. Bejarano looks like he had at least a couple of options in this race so for him to end up here is interesting. She looks like she was contending in good races in Ireland, and she's come to the U.S. with decent workouts, especially her last one on Feb. 8. Worth a shot in the Gonzo.
Sunday
Best Bet (Win Bet/ Monkey Bet)
Gulfstream Park, Race 9
Los Borrachos: He is probably the best horse in the race, but he will have to overcome a slow pace to win. Trainer Bill Mott put him on the turf and he immediately improved. Ever since, Mott has continued to try to get him on the turf. Julien Leparoux gets the mount and he is one of the most patient turf riders out there. He should take Los Borrachos back and let him rate just like he likes. If he can get any pace to run into, expect him to come flying late.
Longshot Bet (Granny Bet)
Gulfstream Park, Race 10
Charlie A: After showing talent from the beginning, Charlie A enters a reasonable spot to regain his form. The past two races, he was in a little over his head against some very nice horses. He'll get a chance to show his best against this competition today. He's coming off a layoff but the worktab seems to be consistent - a sign that everything is in line. Given the short run into the first turn, he could be caught a little wide, but if he can negotiate a good trip from there, he should have a good shot to win.
