Restrainedvengence (outside) battles with Kiwi's Dream to win the All American by a head at Golden Gate

Restrainedvengence added another stakes win to his résumé May 25, taking the $100,900 All American Stakes, the feature race on the Golden Gate Fields' Memorial Day card, over a field of six other older horses going one mile.

Favored at odds of 6-5, the Hold Me Back gelding, trained by Val Brinkerhoff for a partnership that consists of Kelly Brinkerhoff and Bob Grayson Jr., battled through the stretch with Kiwi's Dream to score by a head. He was ridden to victory by Kent Desormeaux.

Australian-bred Kiwi's Dream led through the first six furlongs in his stakes debut, setting fractions of :23.90, :47.94, and 1:11.60 with Restrainedvengence a length behind pressing the pace. At the top of the turn for home, Restrainedvengence and Camino Del Paraiso were almost on even terms with Kiwi's Dream, but coming off the turn three across the track, Camino Del Paraiso wasn't quite keeping pace with the other two on the far outside.

The two leaders then set down for a stretch duel with Kiwi's Dream stubbornly sticking to the eventual winner and finishing gamely. Camino Del Paraiso was another three lengths back in third.

The final time over the fast track was 1:36.43.

Restrainedvengence came into the All American off a March 15 win in the 1 1/16-mile Curribot Handicap at Sunland Park.

Bred by Westwind Farm in Kentucky, Restrainedvengence is out of the stakes-winning Red Ransom mare Cupids Revenge. He kicked off his 5-year-old season in graded stakes company, but finished fifth in the Feb. 1 San Pasqual Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita Park. He has yet to win a graded stakes but came closest last year when he finished second in the City of Hope Mile (G2) at Santa Anita.

Restrainedvengence has pushed his earnings to $469,222 and moved his record to 7-2-1 from 22 starts. Five of his seven wins are in stakes.
