Winter Weather Forces Several Cancellations

Description:

In anticipation of extreme winter weather conditions, the New York Racing Association has canceled live racing at Aqueduct Racetrack Sunday, Feb. 15, and Laurel Park has postponed its Sunday card to Feb. 20.

Meanwhile, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, Penn National Race Course, and Turfway Park called off their Saturday, Feb. 14 cards. Turfway's featured race for Saturday, the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes, has been rescheduled to Sunday, Feb. 22.

Aqueduct is running its Saturday program as scheduled. However, temperatures in the New York area are expected to drop severely overnight into Sunday with a predicted high of 21 degrees and northwest winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour including gusts over 50 mph. A low of 3 degrees is predicted for Sunday night with continued strong winds.

Maryland Jockey Club has postponed Sunday's Laurel card because of winter weather. It is rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 20. Live racing is to resume Monday, Feb. 16.

Aqueduct and the Belmont Cafe will remain open for simulcasting on Sunday. Telebet and Internet wagering will continue to be available through NYRA Rewards.

Live racing at Aqueduct is to resume Feb. 16, with the $100,000 Evening Attire Stakes highlighting the Presidents' Day card. The NYRA said it will continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and provide updates should further action be necessary regarding Monday's program.
