My Girl Red Gives Texas Red First Win as a Sire

My Girl Red wins on debut at Santa Anita Park

My Girl Red became the first winner for her sire, 2014 Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Texas Red , by leading throughout a $56,200 maiden race June 14 at Santa Anita Park.

The 2-year-old filly spurted away from the gate in her debut under Flavien Prat, set a pressured opening quarter-mile in :22:52, and dashed away over the 4 1/2-furlong distance. She opened a three-length advantage in midstretch and was 4 1/4 lengths in front of favored Miss Baylee at the wire. She completed the distance in :52.90 on a fast track. 

Owned and bred by Erich Brehm, who raced Texas Red in partnership with Wayne Detmar, Lee Michaels, Keith Desormeaux, and Gene Voss, My Girl Red paid $6 to win. Desormeaux, who trained Texas Red, also conditions My Girl Red.

She is the fifth winner for her dam, who also produced 3-year-old Gold Street (by Street Boss ), who captured the Sugar Bowl Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots last year and the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park this year. 

Kentucky-bred My Girl Red was unsold as part of the Abbie Road Farm consignment at the Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale when bidding stalled at $70,000.

Texas Red, an 8-year-old son of Afleet Alex  and a first-crop stallion, also won the Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) at 3 over Frosted  at Saratoga Race Course in 2015. He never raced after a fifth-place finish in the Travers Stakes (G1) that year and was retired in 2016. He stands at Crestwood Farm in Kentucky for a $10,000 fee.
