No Parole and jockey Luis Saez sprinted to the lead and the son of Violence opened up to score by 3 3/4 lengths in the $250,000 Woody Stephens Stakes Presented by Claiborne Farm (G1) to kick off the stakes action June 20 on Belmont Stakes Day at Belmont Park.
Facing just four other 3-year-olds in the seven-furlong test, No Parole rolled through the first half-mile in fractions of :22.31 and :45.01. On the turn for home Mischevious Alex turned up the pressure and Shoplifted rallied from the back to confront the leader, but neither was able to draw near No Parole's flank. When Saez asked his mount for more, No Parole easily put distance between him and runner-up Echo Town, who came with a late run.
The winner, trained by Tom Amoss and owned by Maggi Moss and Greg Tramontin, raced seven furlongs on a fast track in 1:21.41. He paid $8.20 for a $2 wager.
Shoplifted settled for third and Mischevious Alex was fourth. Meru was last of five.
