Cazadero breaks his maiden with an 8 3/4-length romp at Churchill Downs

Stonestreet Stables' homebred Cazadero stands out among a field of seven promising 2-year-olds in search of a graded stakes victory in the $100,000 Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) June 27 at Churchill Downs.

The six-furlong race is just the second start for the son of Street Sense  who dazzled in his May 29 debut with an 8 3/4-length win under Ricardo Santana Jr. in a five-furlong test on the same track for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Cazadero entered his maiden race sporting an impressive work tab, including a swift half-mile move at the beginning of May in :46 2/5 from the gate at Keeneland. Since his debut, he has been stabled with Asmussen's string at Churchill Downs.

Cazadero is out of 2006 Prioress Breeders' Cup Stakes (G1) runner-up Wild Gams, who was the New Jersey-bred Horse of the Year in 2006 and 2008.

Santana will again have the call from post 6.

Also entered is Cazadero's stablemate Hulen, who won a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight June 12 at Churchill by 1 1/2 lengths, beating six rivals. Owned by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Madaket Stables, and Spendthrift Farm, Hulen was bred in Texas by Keith Asmussen and was sold to the Heiligbrodts at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale for $50,000. He later failed to meet his reserve on a final bid of $295,000 at this year's Ocala Breeders' Sales March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.

Corey Lanerie will be aboard the Tapiture  colt from post 2.

Gatsby, trained by Juan Alvarado, is also among the field of first-out winners, boasting an April 17 win at Gulfstream Park over subsequent Norfolk Stakes (G2) runner-up Golden Pal. The Florida-bred Brethren  colt is a homebred for Arindel and will be ridden from post 3 by Tyler Gaffalione.

The Bashford Manor field also includes first-out maiden winners Crown and CokeHyperfocusHerd Immunity, and County Final.
