Micheline Seeks First Graded Stakes Score in Regret

Godolphin's stakes-winning filly Micheline will be in search of her first graded stakes victory in the $100,000 Regret Stakes (G3T), a 1 1/8-mile turf event for 3-year-old fillies at Churchill Downs.

Trained by Mike Stidham, Micheline scored a 2 1/4-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile Honey Ryder Stakes last month at Gulfstream Park.

The Bernardini  filly broke her maiden in her second start last year in the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park. Following an unsuccessful try on dirt in the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, Micheline was eighth in the Chelsey Flower Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack. Micheline returned to form in a first-level allowance race in December at Tampa Bay Downs and had a near miss in the Feb. 1 Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3T) back at Gulfstream.

Micheline is the only stakes winner for her dam, the multiple grade 1 winner Panty Raid. The filly drew post 6 and will be ridden by Joe Bravo.

Among her rivals in the 13-horse field is the Estate of Harvey Clarke and Paul Braverman's Busanda Stakes winner Harvey's Lil Goil, who made her graded stakes debut in the May 1 Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park. Though she finished 11th in that 1 1/16-mile test, the quality of the field was comparable to a Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) prep, and she will not have the same competition Saturday. 

The American Pharoah  filly trained by Bill Mott will leave post 10 with Martin Garcia aboard.

Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, and Wonder Stable's recent allowance winner Crystal Cliffs is the 3-1 morning-line favorite. The Canford Cliffs filly raced in her native France, where she finished third in her debut and won a maiden-level race at the end of 2019. 

Now in training with Graham Motion, Crystal Cliffs won a May 31 allowance race at Churchill Downs in her North American debut.

Making just her fourth start, she will again be ridden by John Velazquez from post 5.
