Trainer Steve Asmussen will send out Whiskey Double and Holland June 27 at Churchill Downs

Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Winchell Thoroughbreds partnered to purchase an Into Mischief  colt during the Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $875,000, and the connections will get to see their investment in action June 27.

Named Whiskey Double, the colt will make his debut for trainer Steve Asmussen in a six-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-olds at Churchill Downs. The morning-line favorite at 3-1 will face a field of 10 other juvenile colts.

Bred in Kentucky by Buck Pond Farm and Richard Seale, Whiskey Double is the first foal out of the stakes-winning Munnings  mare Lake Sebago. His third dam produced Canadian champion 2-year-old Hollinger and stakes winner Rinaldi.

Whiskey Double has had three timed workouts at Churchill Downs, including a five-furlong spin on the main track in 1:01 June 16 and a three-furlong breeze in :39 June 22.

He will be ridden from post 7 by Ricardo Santana Jr.

Asmussen also has Holland in the race. Another Into Mischief colt, he is making his first start for owners China Horse Club and WinStar Farm.

The field also includes Medicine Tail, a Kantharos  half brother to grade 2 winner O'Prado Again, and Notary, a Street Sense  colt out of the Tabasco Cat mare Ellesmere, who has produced a grade 3 winner and two stakes winners among her seven winners.

PTK's Medicine Tail finished third in his May 29 debut, a five-furlong test in which Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) entrant Cazadero ran off to an 8 3/4-length win. He runs for trainer Dane Kobiskie and will leave the outside post with jockey Joseph Rocco Jr. aboard.

White Birch Farm's Notary will make his first start at longer odds for trainer D. Wayne Lukas. The colt drew post 6 and gets the services of Joe Talamo.

Brad Cox-trained Nautilus and Tom Amoss-trained Windcracker could provide competition. Nautilus is making his second start after finishing just behind Medicine Tail in his first effort, and Windcracker is set to debut for owner Greg Tramontin.
