Sackatoga Stable's Tiz the Law on July 1 returned to the scene of his victory in the opening leg of the Triple Crown, putting in his first timed work since a decisive win in the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1).

The 3-year-old son of Constitution  trained by Barclay Tagg breezed four furlongs at Belmont Park in an easy :50.06 with regular rider Manny Franco in the saddle. It was the 27th-fastest of 40 works at that distance.

"Barclay just wanted to get him out there to do an easy half-mile," Sackatoga managing partner Jack Knowlton said. "We're just letting him stretch his legs to keep him fit. They said he didn't miss a beat after the Belmont. He ate fine, his legs were fine."

The next race for Tiz the Law promises to be the $1 million Runhappy Travers Stakes (G1) Aug. 8 at Saratoga Race Course in the town where Knowlton and many of the 35 partners who own a share of Tiz the Law live and watched the colt's June 20 victory in the 1 1/8-mile Belmont Stakes.

"We're in no rush to do anything with him since we have until Aug. 8 to get him ready for the Travers," Knowlton said.

Tiz the Law's 3 3/4-length victory in this year's first jewel of the Triple Crown earned him accolades as the first New York-bred to win the Belmont Stakes since 1882.

Plans call for Tiz the Law to continue on the Triple Crown trail after the Travers and run in the Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) at Churchill Downs. With a 3-for-3 record in 2020, all in graded stakes, he has already secured a spot in the 20-horse starting gate by racking up 272 qualifying points to safely top the leaderboard for the 1 1/4-mile classic.

A son of the Tiznow  mare Tizfiz bred by Twin Creeks Farm, he was purchased by Knowlton for $110,000 from the Sequel New York consignment at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Yearlings Sale. He will stand at Coolmore America's Ashford Stud after his racing career.

Knowlton said Tiz the Law will probably ship to Saratoga either July 13 or 14. Opening day at the Spa is July 16.
