Shedaresthedevil wins an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs

Shedaresthedevil will look to add 20 more qualifying points toward a start in the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) when she faces a field of 10 others in the $200,000 Indiana Oaks (G3) July 8 at Indiana Grand.

Campaigned by Flurry Racing Stables, Qatar Racing Limited, and Big Aut Farms and trained by Brad Cox, the 3-year-old daughter of Daredevil  earned her first 50 points toward the classic filly race March 7 at Oaklawn Park when she took the Honeybee Stakes (G3) by three-quarters of a length. She picked up 20 more next out May 1 when third in the Fantasy Stakes (G3) at the Arkansas track, but was back in the winner's circle June 5 after a victory in an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs

The Indiana Oaks offers qualifying points in increments of 20-8-4-2 to the first four finishers.

Shedaresthedevil currently ranks fourth on the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard with 70 points. She will break from post 6 with Florent Geroux in the irons.

Hoping to snag his fifth Indiana Oaks title aboard Tempers Rising will be jockey Julien Leparoux, who will leave from post 3 aboard the Dallas Stewart trainee.

Owned by Mark and Nancy Stanley, Tempers Rising is a graded stakes-placed daughter of Bayern  who enters Wednesday's 1 1/16-mile test off a seventh-place finish in a May 29 allowance race at Churchill. The filly fared better in her first three starts of her sophomore season, running third in the Jan. 18 Silverbulletday Stakes, fourth in the Feb. 15 Rachel Alexandra Stakes Presented by Fasig-Tipton (G2), and second in the March 21 Twinspires.com Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

The 47 points earned from her three efforts put Tempers Rising in 13th place on the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard.

"But for the last race, she's been very consistent for me," said Leparoux, who has ridden Tempers Rising for the past six starts. "I think the last race is a throw out, hopefully anyway. But she was running very good at the Fair Grounds this winter, running second in a stakes over there."

Breaking from post 10 will be fellow Bayern filly Bayerness. Trained by Cherie DeVaux and owned by Belladonna Racing, Bayerness has raced twice in graded company this season finishing seventh in the Feb. 29 Davona Dale (G2) at Gulfstream Park and third in the June 6 Dogwood Stakes (G3) at Churchill. Rafael Bejarano will ride.
