As a result of lightning damage to the electronic timing equipment at the Ocala Breeders' Sales track in Ocala, Fla., the July final session of the under tack show for the July 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age Sale has been postponed until July 12.
The session will begin at 7:30 a.m., with Hips 901-1114 scheduled to breeze.
OBS sales director Tod Wojciechowski said the damage occurred during a storm that blew through the North Central Florida area late Friday night.
"There was significant lightning damage," Wojciechowski said, adding it was unknown if the damage was caused by a direct strike or a ground strike that traveled through the wiring system. "It blew out most of the circuits for the electronic timing system. It happened overnight. It was a microburst. Here in Florida those storms pop up like that."
The OBS sales director said the damage was being assessed Saturday morning to determine if the equipment could be repaired or if a new system was needed, but that there would be a timer in place for Sunday's breezes.
The sale takes place July 14-16, beginning at 10 a.m. daily.
