Making Money Betting Upstart in Fountain of Youth (también en Español)

South Florida’s path to the 2015 Triple Crown continues Saturday with eight 3-year-olds scheduled to contest the $400,000 Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park. 
Five of the eight Fountain of Youth entrants (Upstart, Frosted, Bluegrass Singer, Juan and Bina, and Frammento) competed in last month’s Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream, while the other three Fountain of Youth entrants (Gorgeous Bird, Itsaknockout, and Danny Boy) can be considered “new shooters” in this race.
In the aforementioned Holy Bull Stakes, which was run on Jan. 24, Upstart completely dominated the competition and cemented his status as the Fountain of Youth favorite. 
According to all accounts, Upstart has been full of energy in his morning training sessions since his victory in the Holy Bull, and I truthfully cannot find any legitimate reason to go against him in the Fountain of Youth. That said, wagering on Upstart simply to win the Fountain of Youth will not yield a handsome return at the betting windows, and we are here to make some money! 
In order to possibly increase our winnings when betting the Fountain of Youth, it is necessary to pick some other horses to bet “underneath” in our exotic wagers. Underneath refers to placings other than first that are utilized in exotic bets, such as second place in exactas as well as second and third place in trifectas.
Below are some of the horses that I think fit best underneath in the Fountain of Youth:
#4 Gorgeous Bird: This colt has built a solid record for himself, having won two of the first three races in his career. Most recently, Gorgeous Bird was an impressive winner at Gulfstream Park, which tells us he should like the racing surface he will run on in the Fountain of Youth. He has yet to have been tested against the caliber of racehorses he will face on Saturday, but if he continues to improve, Gorgeous Bird could certainly finish in second or third in this race.
#5 Itsaknockout: Both of his career races have come at Gulfstream Park, and both of them have been victories, so this colt might have a little home-field advantage on his side in the Fountain of Youth. Similar to Gorgeous Bird, however, Itsaknockout has never faced the caliber of competition he will meet on Saturday. Trainer Todd Pletcher is no stranger to winning big races at Gulfstream Park, and with added improvement, Itsaknockout could take another step toward the Triple Crown with a solid showing in the Fountain of Youth.
#6 Frosted: Having never finished worse than second in five career races, this colt has consistently brought his “A” game every time he has been asked to compete. Most recently, Frosted was no match for Upstart in January’s Holy Bull Stakes, where he finished a fairly distant second. Frosted will try to turn the tables on Upstart in Saturday’s Fountain of Youth, and he appears to have the best chance of anyone in the field to potentially upset Upstart for the win.

En el sur de Florida la ruta para la Triple Corona del 2015 continúa el sábado con ocho tres añeros programados para competir por los $400,000 que reparte el Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth Stakes en Gulfstream Park.
Cinco de los ocho inscritos en el Fountain of Youth (Upstart, Frosted, Bluegrass Singer, Juan and Bina, y Frammento) compitieron el último mes en el Holy Bull Stakes en Gulfstream, mientras los otros tres del Fountain of Youth (Gorgeous Bird, Itsaknockout, y Danny Boy) pueden ser considerados “nuevos cazadores” en la carrera.
