Southern Equine Stables' sophomore Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) contender Moreno, runner-up for trainer Eric Guillot in the Travers Stakes (gr. I) and Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II), breezed a bullet five furlongs in :59 1/5 Oct. 26 at Santa Anita Park, fastest of 50 at the distance on the day.
Willis Horton's Will Take Charge, who beat Moreno in the Travers and Pennsylvania Derby for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, also went a quick five furlongs in preparation for the Classic, coming in second fastest in :59 2/5.
On the worktab at that distance as well was Classic contender Mucho Macho Man, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing's 5-year-old son of Macho Uno , who went handily in 1:00 3/5 for trainer Kathy Ritvo.
Others who worked on the main track included Padua Stables' Todd Pletcher-trained Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) contender Authenticity, who went four furlongs in a bullet :46 1/5, and defending Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) contender Groupie Doll, who clocked four furlongs in :47 2/5 for Buff Bradley, Fred Bradley, Carl Hurst and Brent Burns.
Mark Bacon and Dana Wells' Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) runner Silver Max went four furlongs in :47 2/5 for trainer Dale Romans, who also sent Priscilla Vaccarezza's defending Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) winner Little Mike through five furlongs on the main track in :59 4/5.
Another winner from last year, Sherry Racing's Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. i) victor Trinniberg, clocked four furlongs in :46 4/5 for trainer Bisnath Parboo on the main track. Trainer Jeff Bonde had his Sprint contender, Majestic Stride, go the same distance in :47 3/5.
Among 2-year-olds going four furlongs on the tab were Got Shades (:48 4/5), Ria Antonia (:46 3/5), and We Miss Artie (:46 3/5).
Also at five furlongs on the main track: Dance With Fate (1:01 3/5), Suns Out Guns Out (1:03 1/5), and Skyring and Tour Guide (1:00 1/5). The latter two, contenders for the Turf and Turf Sprint (gr. IT), respectively, worked in company for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
