Description:

Mathew "Cole" Norman, a former leading trainer at Louisiana Downs and Oaklawn Park, reportedly has been arrested and charged following an incident in Shreveport, La.

According to KSLA in Shreveport, Norman was arrested Feb. 20 after two felony warrants for stalking and harassing phone calls were taken out on him. The report said the warrants stemmed from a complaint filed by a female who reported to the Shreveport Police Department as a result of a Feb. 6 incident. KSLA said the relationship between Norman and the complainant is unknown.

From 1994-2007, Norman trained the winners of 1,885 races from 7,385 starters for a 26% win rate, with stable earnings in excess of $30.2 million. During the 13-year period, he saddled winners of 126 stakes races.

In March 2007, Norman was handed a six-month suspension and $1,000 fine for two 2006 separate incidents involving total carbon dioxide violations.

The following month he was sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of negligent homicide in connection with an automobile accident in Hot Springs, Ark., that resulted in the death of Virginia Heath, a distant cousin of former President Bill Clinton.

Norman served about nine months in prison before being released and placed on parole in January 2009.
