Santa Anita Announces Spring Stakes Schedule

Santa Anita Park announced its spring stakes schedule Feb. 20 and the slate will feature six grade I events.
The meeting will run from April 25 through June 28 and will be highlighted by the 1 1/4-mile $500,000 Gold Cup (gr. I) June 27 for 3-year-olds and up.
It's the second spring meet for Santa Anita, which took over the dates after the closure of Hollywood Park in 2013.
Other grade I races featured will be the $300,000 Vanity Stakes, for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles May 9; the $300,000 Gamely Stakes, for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on turf May 25; the $400,000 American Oaks, for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/4 miles on turf May 30; the $400,000 Shoemaker Mile for three year olds and up on turf June 13, and the $300,000 Triple Bend Stakes, for three year olds and up at seven furlongs June 27.
The 1 3/4-mile San Juan Capistrano Stakes (gr. IIIT) will cap the stakes schedule on the meet's closing day, June 28.
