Multiple graded/group stakes winner and proven sire Desert Party has been sold and will continue his stud career in Saudi Arabia in a deal brokered by Schumer Bloodstock, the agent announced Aug. 24.
The 14-year-old son of Street Cry, out of the winning Tabasco Cat mare Sage Cat, was a highly regarded 2-year-old who sold for $2.1 million to then-bloodstock agent for Godolphin John Ferguson at Fasig-Tipton's Select 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale in South Florida. The colt was sold by Scanlon Training Center, agent.
Desert Party shone brightest at 2 and 3, winning the Sanford Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course as a juvenile and followed the next year with a win in the Gulf News U.A.E. Two Thousand Guineas (G2) and a runner-up effort in the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group U.A.E. Derby (G2). He was a stakes winner at 4 as well, taking the Derrinstown Stud Elnadim Mahab Al Shimaal (G3) at Meydan and the Donald LeVine Memorial Handicap at Philadelphia Park by 3 1/2 lengths. Desert Party retired with six wins from 10 starts and earned $928,467.
As a stallion, Desert Party has sired seven black-type winners so far including group 3 winner Salama, multiple stakes winner and grade 2-placed Heart's Song, and dual stakes winner Aunt Babe. His best runners have been precocious with six of his stakes winners earning black-type status at 2. Collectively, his progeny have earned nearly $10 million.
