First Song wins on debut at Belterra Park

Blazing Meadows Farm's homebred First Song won by 3 1/4 lengths on debut Aug. 25 at Belterra Park, representing the first winner for freshman sire Itsthesameoldsong.

Trained by Blazing Meadows owner Tim Hamm, First Song faced five other juveniles, all with previous racing experience, in Tuesday's six-furlong maiden special weight for Ohio-breds. The dark bay or brown colt was ridden by John McKee and grabbed the lead early. He ran the first quarter-mile in :22.59 and a half-mile in :46.99, opening up by four lengths while repelling a challenger on the backstretch. He stayed game to the wire and stopped the clock in 1:14.76 on the fast track.

First Song is the second foal and second winner out of Atticus mare Mini Mostest, who is also a Blazing Meadows homebred.

Itsthesameoldsong, a 9-year-old son of Unbridled's Song, raced at ages 4 and 5 for Farfellow Farm and Blazing Meadows, winning a maiden race at Tampa Bay Downs. He was bred in Kentucky by Farfellow Farm and Taylor Made Stallions out of the three-time stakes winning Turkoman mare Turkappeal. The stallion is a half brother to Natalma (G3T) winner Pink Champagne and stakes winner Z Appeal, as well as to stakes placed Awesome Moment and Sassy Brunette.

Itsthesameoldsong stands for a private fee at Twin Lakes Equestrian Center near North Jackson, Ohio.
