Fly On Angel wins the Charles Town Oaks

Fly On Angel, claimed for $50,000 Aug. 10 at Parx Racing by Joseph Besecker and trainer Claudio Gonzalez, took flight from the gate and was a half-length winner of the Aug. 28 Charles Town Oaks (G3) at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. The 3-year-old filly by Palace Malice  covered seven furlongs in 1:26.15.

With local rider Fredy Peltroche aboard, Fly On Angel popped third from post 7 in the two-turn event and was able to get the lead and the rail. The opening splits—:22.81 for the opening quarter and :46.25 for the half-mile—were demanding, but the dark bay was well in hand as Gifted Heart, Lenzi's Lucky Lady, and Boerne gave chase. In deep stretch, Wicked Whisper rallied for second, edging Princess Cadey by a nose. Favored Tonalist's Shape finished fifth.

Fly On Angel, out of the stakes-placed Posse mare Runge, was bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall and Haymarket Farm. Select Sales sold her to Tollgate Farm for $15,000 as a weanling at the 2017 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Clovis Crane, agent, picked her up for $20,000 at the following year's Keeneland September Yearling Sale, and Nick Cammarano Jr., with Guadalope Preciado as agent, paid $23,000 for her at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

At 2, she ran second in the Parx Juvenile Fillies Stakes for Cammarano. She has a 4-2-0 mark in nine starts and has earned $225,160.
