Jockey Perez Notches Milestone Win at Finger Lakes

Jockey Luis Perez guided a horse to victory for the 1,000th time in the mainland United States Sept. 1 when he scored a front-running win aboard Hannah Dances in the eighth race at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack.

Perez, who counts multiple races listed as grade 1 in Puerto Rico among his 1,363 wins there, drew off in the stretch aboard TLC Thoroughbreds' Hannah Dances Tuesday to post a 4 1/4-length win. Hanna Dances, a daughter of Shakin It Up , is trained by Daniel Conway Jr.

Through Sept. 1 Perez was atop the Finger Lakes rider standings in wins, with 32; and earnings, with $403,248. He has finished among the top 100 leading riders by North American wins eight times since 2005. Some of his top stakes winners riding in the Northeast include Grady and Jeb.
