In a move that Churchill Downs officials hope hits the right note considering the larger social justice issues in the country, Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) horses will parade to 'My Old Kentucky Home' Sept. 5 but it will be music only as opposed to a sing-along.

All eyes—mostly through television as no fans are permitted at this year's Derby because of COVID-19 restrictions—will be on Churchill bugler Steve Buttleman, who will perform the song solo.

In a statement, Churchill said the song will be preceded by a moment of silence.

"After careful consideration, 'My Old Kentucky Home' will be played this year prior to the Kentucky Derby; however, the 100-year tradition of singing the state song of Kentucky has been thoughtfully and appropriately modified and will be preceded by a moment of silence and reflection."
