Monomoy Girl wins the La Troienne at Churchill Downs

Returning to the scene of her victories in the 2018 Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) and Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1), Monomoy Girl took charge at the top of the stretch and won the $500,000 La Troienne Stakes (G1) on the Sept. 4 Kentucky Oaks card at Churchill Downs.

Owned by Michael Dubb, Monomoy Stables, The Elkstone Group, and Bethlehem Stables and trained by Brad Cox, Monomoy Girl ($2.80) won for the 12th time in 14 starts, with two seconds. It was the first grade 1 win of the year and sixth overall for the 5-year-old daughter of Tapizar , who was the champion 3-year-old filly of 2018 and has earned more than $3 million.


Lady Kate was second, followed by Horologist and Saracosa.

Ridden by Florent Geroux, Monomoy Girl covered the the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.14.
