Local Winners to Take Step Up in Del Mar Juvenile Turf

Get Her Number wins on debut Aug. 14 at Del Mar

A trio of maiden special weight winners on the local turf could vie for favoritism, and vie on the racetrack, in the $100,000 Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes Sept. 7 at Del Mar. Ten males are expected go to the post in the one-mile turf contest.

Gary Barber's Get Her Number made her racing debut Aug. 14 and captured a five-furlong grass sprint. He's back three weeks later for trainer Peter Miller on the stretch-out and will have Flavien Prat in the tack. The bay colt is a Kentucky-bred by Dialed In .

John and Diane Fradkin's Rombauer, a bay colt by Twirling Candy , scored at first asking July 25, firing late to be up by half a length in a mile turf event. Mike McCarthy trains the colt for his owners/breeders. Juan Hernandez has accepted the mount.

Legacy Ranch's Big Fish stretched out to a mile and switched to the grass Aug. 21 and came away a winner in a maiden special weight test. The gelded son of Mr. Big  is trained by David Hofmans and will be ridden by Victor Espinoza. 

Reddam Racing's Ambivalent enters as a maiden in three starts, but was third in the Aug. 8 Best Pal Stakes (G2) and second twice against maidens. The Del Mar Juvenile Turf will be his first race on the grass. Doug O'Neill trains the Constitution  colt. Mario Gutierrez has the mount from the rail.

Red Baron's Barn and Rancho Temescal's Cotopaxi and Altamira Racing Stable, CYBT, and Michael Nentwig's Ebeko will make their United States debuts in Monday's stake. Cotopaxi is a winner on the all-weather in England and Ebeko won over turf in Ireland. 

C'Mon Jenna, Herd Immunity, None Above the Law, and Inner Ghost complete the lineup. Inner Beauty, Caisson, and Sonic Brees have been scratched.
