Santa Anita's Feb. 22 Pick 5 Payout Delayed

The Feb. 22 Pick 5 at Santa Anita Park has yet to be paid out because of a tote malfunction, track officials said Sunday night.
A statement from the Southern California track said the malfunction was caused when the 6 1/2-furlong fourth race was moved from the downhill turf course to the main dirt track because of wet conditions.
According to California Horse Racing Board Rule 1976.9, once a wager such as the Pick 5 is under way, the race in which the surface change occurs is adjusted to have all starters declared winners.
The fourth race Feb. 22 was deemed an "all winners" contest under that rule, causing the pari-mutuel calculations for the Pick 5 to be dramatically altered.
